About Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a non-invasive, drug-free way of diagnosing, treating, and preventing health issues by manipulating and strengthening the musculoskeletal framework.
It enhances the body’s natural healing process through manual therapy, improving circulation, and reducing blood pressure. Techniques used include soft tissue stretching, deep tactile pressure, and joint mobilisation or manipulation. Unlike conventional treatments, osteopathy addresses the cause of pain, not just the symptoms, providing more enduring relief.
Each session is tailored to meet the unique physiological needs of our patients, supporting their path to recovery and sustained health. For more information or to book an appointment directly with Gavin, please visit Osteomed Clinics

Frequently asked questions
How does osteopathy differ from chiropractic care?
Osteopathy treats the body as a whole and uses a range of techniques to balance all body systems, enhancing physical health and well-being. Chiropractic care often focuses more on the diagnosis and management of spinal and mechanical disorders, with a significant emphasis on spine manipulation.
Do I need a referral to see an osteopath?
No, patients can self-refer to an osteopath. However, it is beneficial to inform your GP about your osteopathic treatment to ensure integrated care, especially if you have complex health needs.
Is osteopathic treatment painful?
While osteopathic treatment is generally not painful, some techniques may cause discomfort especially if the area being treated is already sensitive or inflamed. However, osteopaths aim to make the treatment as pain-free as possible, and any post-treatment soreness typically resolves within a day or two.
Can I claim osteopathy on my private medical insurance?
Many private health insurance policies cover osteopathic treatment. It’s important to check with your insurer for specifics about coverage and whether a GP referral is necessary for reimbursement.
What training do osteopaths have?
Osteopaths in the UK complete a four to five-year degree program, which includes comprehensive training in subjects such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and general medical diagnostics, similar to those studied in medical school.
